At the inaugural Gold Coast Gold Conference held at QT, Brian Chu of the Australian Gold Fund caught up with Harry Fry, a derivatives specialist from MAS Group, to discuss leveraged investing in gold.

As global interest in precious metals surges, Fry shared insights into how institutional and professional investors are using leveraged contracts like CFDs (Contracts for Difference) to capitalise on the rising price of gold.

“Gold is now over 70% higher in AUD terms over the past two years,” Fry noted, “and that kind of movement has naturally driven serious trading interest.”

Unlike many retail brokers, MAS Group is a global institutional brokerage offering rolling spot contracts on gold, with a strong client base in Southeast Asia and China. According to Fry, nearly 80% of their trading volume is currently driven by gold - a clear reflection of the metal's central role in the current macro environment.

The conversation also touched on risk management and investor suitability. While leverage can amplify gains, Fry cautioned that it's best suited for experienced, well-informed traders and stressed the importance of due diligence.

Brian and Harry agreed that as more investors look to diversify and hedge against uncertainty, leveraging gold strategically could be an option - especially for institutional players looking beyond traditional investments.
